RAK Day TODAY (Jan 7th)

It is so hard to believe this day has come again … it is RAK day.  Last year … last January 7th I decided to change Wylder “Diagnosis Day”  to a day where we all do a random act of kindness in his honor instead.  It really helps to take some of the fear and anxiety away from the day, knowing good deeds are happening in his honor.  It really helps to change the focus of the day on how it will help another and how someone new will learn of our most beautiful Warrior.  It will certainly always be a day of reflection where I will require an immense amount of down time to reflect on the happenings of January 7, 2010 and how I still dream of waking up from what I am hopeful is/was only a nightmare.    But as I think about heading off to dreamland tonight (with hopes of dreams about Wylder) I will look forward to waking up and thinking of who and how I can do a RAK for Wylder TODAY and I hope you all will do the same!

Within just a few days of Wylder’s diagnosis in 2010 we were on a plane to New York Mount Sinai to meet Dr. Melissa Wasserstein and then headed to Duke University in NC.  At this point we determined we would leave ‘no stone’ unturned for our littlest and would make FUN out of any and all days/situations.

Oh Shannon – I love the idea of RAK day. Isn’t it just like you to turn something so dark into lightness? You are amazing! Today I will do a tiny little RAK that I just love to do. I looove any kind of coffee treat and often don’t have time to stop into a Starbucks or similar coffee place, so I do the McDonald’s McCafe – they are yummy. I love to “pay it forward” and pick up the bill for the person behind me in the drivethrough line. The cashier usually asks what I want to tell the people in that car. Today it will be, “Tell them it’s from Wylder, the bravest little Warrior!” xoxoxoxo

    • Mommy and Daddy says:

Thank you Cathy. I love to think of someone getting a most delishes Mc-Treat from you because of “the bravest little Warrior”. Lots of love and thanks. xoxo S

  2. Two of my coworkers were especially supportive of me last week during a really hectic and stressful time. I treated them both to lunch today….had some yummy goodies catered in. They both were surprised and delighted, but kept saying, “Les, you didn’t have to do this!! You know we always have your back!”

I simply said, “My friend Wylder treated us.”

Luv u and miss u Mr. Littles!!

    • Mommy and Daddy says:

Your co-workers must have been over the moon! What an amazing RAK, thank you Leslie. Thank you for making what was a really tough day … better, and for spreading Wylder’s love. xoxo

  3. Thinking of you today! My grandma has been sick, so as a RAK I made her and my grandpa a healthy dinner so they could both rest. All my life they’ve done kind things and put meals on the table for everyone else, so I thought I’d do something nice for them for a change.

    • Mommy and Daddy says:

Oh Sarah, how sweet … I am sure they loved your home cooked meal so much. We think of you all often too and send our love always. Thank you for your #WNRAK. xoxo S

  5. ok so we are late, but we did our Wylder RAK day finally!!! We go to the local mall here in Thailand every day. It has AC and the boys love it:) They pay a lady to hold the front door of the mall-isn’t that funny?! There is a really yummy Thai tea shop right by the front, so the boys and I went to buy her their bestseller tea drink and gave it to her. Even though we did not speak the same language, we were able to tell her that it was for her holding the door for us every day, and I talked to the boys that we did it in honor of sweet Wylder, who they call “Trek’s friend” :)

    • Mommy and Daddy says:

I love this! Thank you Chelesa and kiddos for doing this. I bet the door lady was so excited! I love that the boys call Wylder “Trek’s friend”, that is just so perfect and priceless~ xoxo
